We already knew that Craig Finn had set his sights on a solo record, as the Hold Steady frontman revealed back in the summer that he was recording an album in Austin, TX. Now, the songwriter has announced that he'll be leading up to that forthcoming LP with a seven-inch single on November 25.
As Consequence of Sound points out, a listing on Vintage Vinyl Records notes that the single includes two tracks: "Honolulu Blues" on the A-side and "Rented Room" on the flip. This B-side will not be available on any other vinyl release.
The seven-single will be limited to 600 copies. Unfortunately, this release may not be sold in Canada since its part of Record Store Day's U.S.-based Black Friday celebrations. Luckily, we'll all have a chance to purchase it digitally when it arrives online on November 29.
Finn recorded the upcoming album with Mike McCarthy (Spoon, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead). It features backing from members of White Denim, the Heartless Bastards, Phosphorescent, and Centro-matic. Finn previously told Pitchfork that it was mostly recorded during a five-day session and that the sound "leans more towards Americana."
Finn will reportedly tour the U.S. in spring 2012, so look for the full-length to come out around then.
