The Hives Lose To The Vancouver Canucks In Pick-Up Game

BY Dave SynyardPublished Feb 29, 2008

In an unlikely scenario, two of Sweden's greatest commodities - hockey and music - converged in Vancouver to get a pick-up game of stick/puck going last week (February 22) at General Motors Place, the home of the Vancouver Canucks.

Pitchfork has reported that flamboyant garage rockers the Hives squared off against five Swedish players on the Canucks prior to a gig at the Commodore Ballroom on that very same evening. The game ended in an astonishing manner as the band actually scored five goals, only to be out done by their NHL countrymen’s six.

Is it possible that a confidence boost from defeating one of rock’s most explosive bands played a contributing role in the Canucks victory over the NHL league leaders the Detroit Red Wings the following night? Likely not, considering the Wings recently lost three straight. Wait, isn’t this music news?
