Vancouver's Ryan Beattie is just starting to play as part of folk rock outfit Ashley Shadow, but he's still going strong with his long-running solo project, Himalayan Bear. Following the fall release of his No Golden Kingdom, he's now delivered a digital EP titled Pastoral Memoria.
The seven-song, self-released set is dedicated to the memories of two of Beattie's friends: Dieter Darker and Elfin Saddle's Jordan McKenzie. With regards to the former, Beattie added lyrics written by Darker to the fuzzed-up, strum-and-synth piece "Burning."
Though Beattie played the bulk of the instruments himself, live drums were handled by Marek Tyler, and Megan Boddy added a few vocals. The penultimate "Thunderless Golden Light for the Blue Fog of My Mind" also features a field recording captured at the Ke Ahu a Laka Heiau.
