While being sent an emoji smiley face in an off-the-cuff text is somewhat flattering, it's refreshingly romantic to find someone willing to show off both their feelings and their penmanship in a good old-fashioned love letter. As such, Vancouver's High Wasted are saluting snail mail and sweethearts in "Letter," one of three new tunes the group recently unleashed online.
As if hopped up after a full-day of licking high-grade envelope glue, the track mixes jittery garage rock rhythms and baseball stadium-approved keyboard sounds as vocalist Sarah Graves excitedly details exactly what all she'd put in her handwritten communiqué to her heart-stopping dearest.
Also unveiled were "Hot Date," a handclap-heavy new wave ballad about wild city nights ("All I wanna do is get fucked up with you"), and the fiery kiss-and-tell, "Talk to You."
All three songs were recorded with Felix Fung (Chains of Love, Mode Moderne) at his Little Red Sounds studio in Vancouver, and can be streamed below or picked up on Bandcamp.
