Hiawatha

'Language' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 24, 2012

Earlier this year, we caught wind of Hiawatha, the collaboration between Egyptrixx mastermind David Psutka and Camouflage Nights/Thrush Hermit's Ian McGettigan. Their debut album, Language, is due out Tuesday (September 25) through Last Gang Records, and you can stream it now on Exclaim.ca.

A press release notes that this collaboration is a "psychedelic-streaked project," meaning that these electronic tunes sound a lot closer to Egyptrixx's dance-oriented synth jams than they do Thrush Hermit's guitar rock. Album cut "Caring Less and Less to See and Know You" pairs thudding beats with dark and stormy synths, while "Dogs of War" takes a more expansive and atmospheric approach.

Psutka said in a statement, "From our perspective, Language is a dichotomous record — an exploration of pessimism and optimism; success and failure; concussion and tranquility. This album is a friendly nod to every empty promise of a happy ending."
