Hey Ocean!'s long-awaited new album, Is, boasts a bold pop sound, but before that LP drops tomorrow (May 15), you can hear the band in a more intimate setting in their new acoustic session.
The session shows the band perched on stools in a simple, lamp-lit room as they preform a few of their new tunes while the subtly soft-focus camerawork gives everything a hazy, nostalgic feel. The songs are intercut with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. The performance features the core trio joined by a number of backing players who contribute strings, drums, piano, and pedal steel.
All told, there are four songs in the 23-minute session, all from Is. They are: "Jolene," "New Love" (which includes a brief interpolation of Fleetwood Mac's "Never Going Back Again"), "Steady" and "Big Blue Wave." These acoustic performances will be available as bonus tracks with the iTunes-only deluxe version of Is.
Hey Ocean! will perform tomorrow night (May 15) at Clinton's in Toronto with By Divine Right. Cover charge is by donation with all proceeds going to SKATE 4 CANCER.
