Helmet Announce First LP in Six Years, North American Tour

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 7, 2016

In addition to a forthcoming tribute album to Helmet's landmark Meantime LP, a brand new album from the post-hardcore greats is also imminent. Their first collection in six years, Dead to the World sees the light of day October 28.

Dead to the World marks the first full-length release from Helmet since 2010's Seeing Eye Dog. While the album has been in the works for some time, the foursome officially announced the album launch today (September 7) through their website. It's explained there that the group cut the record with Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Qui), while project founder Page Hamilton assumed production duties. The 11-song collection was mixed by Jay Baumgardner.

Hamilton issued the following esoteric statement about the LP:

Catch phrases, punchlines, guns, bluster, ammo, incivility, impatience, murder. You, me, us, them, life, liberty and the pursuit of property.

We disagree, we disrespect, discourse disappears in the age of access. When in doubt GET LOUD! It's my way or the highway, thank you Lawrence Tierney!

Religious tchotchkes nailed to the walls of homes above razor-scarred mirrors. Do you meditate, levitate, pray? Live in LA! I'm a huge fan, got a perfume line, smell nice, plan my next move. Threats loom, the bad news network blooms, fear sells. Just get em out, the spying neighbors, suspects, terrorists our forefathers intent. 'If you don't like it, leave' and call it democracy.

Samples from the set have yet to go live. While Helmet didn't deliver all of the details on their end, a Czech retail site has posted a tracklisting, which you can see below. There, you'll also find details on Helmet's forthcoming fall tour with Local H.

In related news, the Meantime [Redux] tribute album lands September 16 via Magnetic Eye Records. As previously reported, it features covers of Helmet cuts supplied by the likes of KEN Mode, Fuck the Facts, Meek is Murder and more.
