Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks are again giving us a taste of the group's new Sparkle Hard, and this time it comes via a Kim Gordon-equipped song.

The track is called "Refute," and it prominently features the Sonic Youth hero during what's described as "a country-tinged reflection on marriage and infidelity."

According to Malkmus, the idea was to "queer the duet," by messing with "Nashville tropes in light of current trends in evolutionary psychology" and reversing "the classic He Said/She Said narrative, where in this case the 'wife' is the cheater, and the omniscient narrator enters at the end to offer cold comfort."

You can hear "Refute" for yourself below.

For a bit of added fun, Malkmus has also created a playlist generator on Spotify. If you complete the "slightly absurdist quiz," you will get an alternative Sparkle Hard tracklisting and album art. Check it out here.

As previously reported, Sparkle Hard will arrive on May 18 via Matador. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks also have a North American tour booked in support of the album, including dates here in Canada. You can see the schedule over here.
