Head/Phone/Over/Tone

Summer Of Love

BY David LewisPublished Nov 1, 2000

If you love guitar atmospherics and the lush spellbinding webs of delicate feedback and shimmering haze that defined the UK shoe-gazer bands of the late '80s, you will adore Head/Phone/Over/Tone. Their music flows into two continuous suites. The minimalist dirge-wash "beach blue" bleeds into the dreamy title track that recalls the sonic soup Pink Floyd created in the more formless moments of their obscure More soundtrack. A comparable mood is generated during the aleatoric drift of "Reclining Nude." Songs like "Crazy" and "I Can Read Your Mind..." add light crunch to a project that is perfect beach headphone music.
