Head into the Long Weekend with 'Lawless,' 'The Possession' and 'For a Good Time, Call...' in Our Film Roundup

We all know that the biggest cinematic event of the year (up north, at least) is looming, so if you're hoping to warm up for the TIFF festivities, or just looking for some escapist entertainment before heading back to the reality of school or work, head to our Recently Reviewed section. There you'll find reviews of the latest films to hit screens, starting with the highlights below.

To start, an ensemble cast brings director John Hillcoat's interpretation of Virginia's moonshine industry to life in Lawless (pictured). Shia LaBeouf stars alongside Tom Hardy and Jason Clarke as a notorious trio of brothers operating a successful bootlegging business, and trying to avoid the grasp of a chill-inducing DEA agent, played by Guy Pearce. Names like Jessica Chastain and Gary Oldman round out the cast, making for a scenic period drama rife with potential.

Next up, The Possession revisits some classic horror movie tropes when a young girl is overcome by a strange, supernatural force. Directed by Ole Bornedal and presented by Sam Raimi, the flick features starring performances from Jeffery Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick as the child's unfortunate parents.

And finally, Toronto-based filmmaker Jaime Travis makes her feature debut with For a Good Time, Call..., starring her co-writer (and, incidentally, Seth Rogan's spouse) Lauren Miller. The film follows Miller's character, who, after moving in with a college acquaintance -- and promptly losing her job -- joins her new roomie in the world of phone sex to make ends meet, with predictably comic results.
