Havilah is the third album by Australia's the Drones for the All Tomorrow Parties label, and if you can count on these slurring, confessional, ragged rockers for anything it's that they remain consistent to a tee. Very little has changed over the course of this decade for the band, and they still rock out with all the exuberance of a bar band fed equal parts Neil Young and garage rock. The only thing that separates them from all the other bands mining this territory is the ferocity of lead singer Gareth Lidiard's lyrical honesty, who is among the most unpretentious, intense vocalists out there right now. If you're looking for an evolution Havilah will not be for you but if you've been mesmerized by the capacity of the Drones to soundtrack your despair, then this new record won't disappoint.
