GZA

"The Mexican" (ft. Tom Morello)

GZA's album Dark Matter has been in the works for a while now, and with it finally slated to drop this fall, the Wu-Tang Clan rapper has shared a track called "The Mexican" featuring Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.

It's immediately clear why this song is dubbed "The Mexican," as there's a distinctly Latin flavour to the acoustic intro, which is eventually overtaken by a hip-hop beat and GZA's rapping. It prominently samples a 1972 song by Babe Ruth also called "The Mexican."

It was produced by GZA himself and arranged by Jose "Choco" Reynoso.

It's not instantly clear which parts are being played by Morello, since most of the guitars and fairly simple and are tastefully buried within the arrangement. The axeman's personality shines through during the outro solo, however, as it showcases his signature freaky fret wizardry. Hanni El Khatib and Unknown Mortal Orchestra's Ruban Nielson also appear on the song.
