It's official: the Weeknd is officially the most famous musician in the world. This is according to Guinness World Records, which called him "the world's most popular artist," saying, "no one else even comes close."

Guinness noted that he has 111.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify (as of March 20, 2023), making him the first artist with over 100 million monthly listeners on the streaming service.

The Weeknd far exceeds the runner-up on Spotify, Miley Cyrus, who has 82.8 million monthly listeners as of this writing.

Judging by an article posted by Guinness World Records, the title of "the world's most popular artist" seems to have been determined entirely based on Spotify streams, although Guinness does also mention the Weeknd's chart success. The Weeknd recently nabbed his seventh No. 1 single with his "Die for You" remix featuring Ariana Grande. That song came from his 2016 album Starboy — giving it the longest climb to No. 1 on the Hot 100 for a non-holiday song.

The Weeknd's 2020 single "Blinding Lights" recently surpassed Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" to become Spotify's most-streamed song ever. He recently won a pile of prizes at the JUNO Awards.
