Grounders

'Wreck of a Smile'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 5, 2012

Toronto's Grounders have earned praise from us for their fun, easygoing live sets, and now the atmospheric indie pop band have finally dropped their first official release. The newly released Wreck of a Smile is available now as a free digital download.

The four-song collection was recorded at Boombox Sound with Marcel Ramagnano. Self-pronounced sonic touchstones include Grizzly Bear and Wolf Parade, although Grounders are more experimentally ambient than either of those acts.

A press release explains, "It's lush, melodic and charmingly idiosyncratic. Like an encounter with an eerily incandescent circus tent in the backwoods, Wreck of a Smile is enchanting, steeped in sublime wonderment."

Scroll past the tracklist to check out Wreck of a Smile. The band will celebrate the release with a hometown show on November 9 at Double Double Land. The night will also feature performances from Goose Hunt and Ev Ree Wuhn.
