As reported back in 2009, Control producer Orian Williams is hard at work to finally breathe life into a long-awaited Jeff Buckley biopic. The film, which will document the rise and fall of the late icon, has had a long list of celebrities attached to play the lead, including Jared Leto, James Franco, Robert Pattinson and James Marsden. Now, actor Penn Badgley is reportedly confirmed for the role.
Best known as Dan "Lonely Boy" Humphrey on teen show Gossip Girl, Badgley reportedly beat out all the competition for the coveted role.
According to the website called Hollywood Life, an insider said, "Penn is thrilled to get this role and thinks it's the film of a lifetime... He's been trying to push out of the Gossip Girl image and knows this film will be the perfect opportunity to do so."
With an actor most likely cast for the lead role, the film is progressing nicely. Earlier this year, Deadline reported that Jake Scott of Welcome to the Rileys fame is set to direct.
