Good Riddance

Cover Ups

BY Stuart GreenPublished Jan 1, 2006

Long-time fans of the Santa Cruz melodic punk mainstays will already have most of the material on this collection of cover songs culled from the band's nearly 15-year existence, but for latecomers to the world of Good Riddance, it will be a great overview of where the band draws its influences. Some of the covers are creative re-imaginings of novelty pop hits, like the punked-up versions of the Kinks' "Come Dancing" and Modern English's John Hughes-era anthem "I Melt With You." Others, like Battalion of Saints' "Second Coming," Government Issue's "Hall of Fame" and Black Flag's "My War," are reverent nods to their punk roots.
