The Go! Team

'The Scene Between' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 17, 2015

Eclectic UK outfit the Go! Team return with The Scene Between next week, but you can stream the album in advance, right here on Exclaim.ca.

The new record follows 2011's Rolling Blackouts and sees bandleader Ian Parton return to a solo approach. He wrote and produced the album by himself, laying out a few ground rules for the musical creation: melody must take priority, samples should be treated like an instrument, production must vary between songs (for a "flipping the dial on a radio" feel), and the vocalists had to be singers he hadn't heard before.

"I wanted to make an album driven by melody and song writing because catchiness is the hardest thing you can do," Parton said in a statement. "Brill Building hooks but permeated with a kind of wobbly VHS feel."

The result is a 12-song collection that ranges from the percussive pop of opener "What D'You Say?" to more sugary, sweet sounds like those on "Walking the Jetstream," and from blasts of melodic noise on "Blowtorch" to the distorted surf-rock vibes of "Catch Me on the Rebound."

The Scene Between officially arrives on March 24 via Memphis Industries, but you can stream it until then in the player below. If you like what you hear, head over here to pre-order a copy.
