The Go! Team

Rolling Blackouts

Almost a decade into their career, Brighton, UK's the Go! Team still haven't lost any of their youthful exuberance. The group sound just as vital as ever on Rolling Blackouts, which comes almost four full years after 2007's Proof of Youth. Most of these tracks are faithful to the group's patented style, which blends horn-laden hip-hop with indie rock and sounds a bit like it was pulled out of an action movie from the '70s or '80s. They break from this usual formula with "Ready to Go Steady" and "Buy Nothing Day," which opt for a classic pop sound complete with soaring melodies and indelible choruses. The latter features singing from Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino, and her carefree vocals and encouragement to "kick-start the motor" make for what just might be the catchiest moment in the band's career.
