Despite lining up a March release date for his new solo LP, Blackalicious member Gift of Gab's 2012 has been fraught with bad news. Specifically, the rapper revealed that he recently underwent kidney failure.
The Bay Area spitter dished the details in a statement to his fans, hinting that he's hoping for a quick recovery, but things got pretty scary for him a few weeks back.
"About seven weeks ago I went into kidney failure. I hadn't eaten in days, checked in to a hospital, and was diagnosed. I started dialysis five weeks ago," he wrote candidly. "If I can leave you with a message to take away from this, it's to take care of yourself and do not take your health for granted. We think we're invincible but we're all human and our actions catch up to us."
Gift of Gab added that he already has a kidney donor ready to help him out, and that a doctor has given him approval to play some one-off shows to promote his The Next Logical Progression LP, which hits retailers next Tuesday (March 27) through Quannum Projects.
While fans can immerse themselves in the rapper's new collection, which he refers to as "some of [his] best work," they can also look forward to a new Blackalicious album coming sometime in the near future. He didn't delve too much into the specifics of the project, but Gift of Gab confirmed that the group are already working on the album, which will be their first since 2005's The Craft.
