With a full-length, a split, and an EP already behind him, Ghost Mutt's latest effort, Rumble Pak, has already picked up attention, the title track having been premiered by Skream and Benga on BBC Radio 1. The four-song EP is brimming with thick bass and an ability to keep you guessing which direction each track is going to turn. Opener "Rumble Pak" is characterized by beautiful mood swings wherein lithe synth and crisp snare juxtapose with a slick drop into gritty bass and a quickened BPM, while "33 10" employs should-be obnoxious high-end vocals that actually sound divine as they stutter across a breakbeat and massive swells of bass. While the entire album peaks on some level in the realm of drum & bass, Ghost Mutt sticks to a production strategy that bends, blends, and melds genres in a knee-buckling kind of way.
