It started as a lark, recording some old-timey traditionals in a garage far from the centres of the Canadian music universe. But given the pedigree of Daniel, Fred & Julie (Attack In Black, Eric's Trip, Shotgun & Jaybird), it's no surprise that the universe took notice. Now that their self-titled debut has found its way onto our Best Country/Folk Albums of the Year list and Julie Doiron was recently honoured by CBC Radio 3 with a lifetime achievement award, it's time to look back at a more innocent time, when Sam Sutherland sat down with two-thirds of Daniel, Fred & Julie.
