Florence and the Machine

Live on 'SNL'

With the sophomore album Ceremonials available in stores now, Florence and the Machine took to Saturday Night Live last night (November 19) to play a couple of cuts from the new release. And also you'd expect from Florence Welch and her collaborators, these performances offered some characteristically slow building, grandiose arrangements.

For the pounding "Shake It Out," the flame-haired singer was flanked by an ensemble that included two drummers, a harpist and a gospel choir. These contributors created a lush backdrop for Florence's impassioned belting. Later in the show, Florence returned with a string section and a new dress for the similarly climactic "No Light, No Light." Pretty cool, but we were hoping that host Jason Segel might sit in with Florence, given his previous experience with musical theatrics.

Watch both videos below. Unfortunately, Florence doesn't have any Canadian shows coming up on her tour schedule, meaning that this might be the only chance we get to see her live in the next little while.
