After helming a Late Night Tales compilation earlier this year, Floating Points has returned with his first new song since 2017.

The producer born Sam Shepherd has shared a new track titled "LesAlpx," which is set to appear on a new 12-inch arriving July 12 through Ninja Tune. The song will be backed with B-side "Coorabell" on the vinyl release.

Shepherd elaborated on the creation of "LesAlpx" in a statement as follows:

I started going back to my early records and all the sounds I loved playing at clubs like Fabric and Plastic People. I wanted to capture the immediacy of that music and the feeling that I got when I was on the dancefloor, of being immersed in a track that pulls you along instantly. I actually made these tracks quite quickly, which helped to get rid of any desire to overthink the music — it's essentially the sound of me having loads of fun with the machines in my studio and going back to basics.

Shepherd released his debut LP as Floating Points, Elaenia, in 2015. In 2017, he shared short film and soundtrack Reflections - Mojave Desert.
