"Werewolf"

Fiona Apple is set to release her much-anticipated new LP The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do on June 19 via Epic, but you can hear album track "Werewolf" right now.

We previously heard the album's lead single "Every Single Night," which has now been followed up with "Werewolf." Staying in line with the lyrically complex piano-pop sound that she's known for, Apple delivers yet again on this track.

In an interview with Pitchfork, Apple described the process of achieving the right sound for the song, which meant reconstructing the perfect snippet of screaming she had heard in a movie. "I spent literally the next year trying to recreate that sound. I went to San Francisco for Halloween and I was hanging out in trolleys recording people screaming. I would walk past a bunch of drunk people and be like: 'Hey, scream!' But it would always sound wrong and stupid."

The end result features the sound of kids at a playground, and you can hear the sample starting at the 2:10 mark.
