Fiamma Fumana

1.0

BY Romina WendellPublished Aug 1, 2001

The youthful vigour of Fiamma Fumana's playful reworking of traditional Italian folk songs into modern dance music has produced techno you can clap your hands to. It is both catchy enough to play at a wedding and experimental enough to scare the living hell out of any minimal techno head. On their debut CD, 1.0, Fiamma Fumana pump out 11 rollicking techno jigs that rework old village songs around club beats where bagpipes and fiddles jam with hard drives and samplers. This pop-inspired fusion of world beat and techno seems a little overly frantic in its use of beats and bass, but for the most part, it is an interesting blend of old and new school sounds that, if anything, is techno you can play for your grandparents.
