Federal Lights have been active since 2010, and now the Winnipeg pop-rock outfit are finally ready to drop their debut full-length. We Were Found in the Fog arrives through Aporia Records on August 27, and it's available to stream in full right now at Exclaim.ca.
The album was recorded in Winnipeg last winter with Cam Loeppky (the Weakerthans, Greg MacPherson) and producer Rusty Matyas (Imaginary Cities). The production is satisfyingly straightforward, with the band's to-the-point tunes given a hint of reverb-tinged atmosphere.
Opener "Sharks" begins We Were Found in the Fog with gritty electric guitars, but Federal Lights show a softer touch on the glockenspiel-laced single "I See Love," the roots-rocking "Cobra" and the skittering alt-country number "Reservation Girl."
