Eyedea of Eyedea & Abilities Dies at 28

The world of independent hip-hop was shaken yesterday (October 17) with the news that Michael Larsen, best known as rapper Eyedea, was found dead at 28 by his mother. While details of his passing are unknown, his mother did confirm the news. A Facebook page created by Larson's mother contains the following statement:

It is with great pain and sadness that I tell you my son Mikey (Eyedea) has passed away.



At this time we kindly request your respect and our privacy as we process this devastating loss.

At this point, Eyedea's cause of death is unknown. His current record label Rhymesayers echoed his mother's request for privacy, with a similar Facebook status that reads, "Please Respect the wishes of the family, we will pass on more information at a later date."

Working with the producer Abilities, Eyedea's latest rap release was 2009's By the Throat. Besides rapping, Eyedea also performed in a freestyle jazz group called Face Candy and an alt-rock band called Carbin Carousel.
