Exalt have carved out their own sound within metalcore, and now they're putting their own original twist on the standard performance music video with "Worship." The song, which we called the album highlight of The Shape You Took Before the Ache, meshes perfectly with the visuals.
Strategic cuts, VHS-style static and creepy images impart a sense of urgency on the viewer, as they watch the band perform in a sickly looking room. Tyler Brand and Ben Waugh calmly mouth their words into the camera in separate solo scenes — though that calm belies the intensity of the song, serving as contrast to the rest of the sporadic, energetic band clips.
The song itself perfectly toes the line between metalcore and the band's nu metal influences — think more Deftones, less Linkin Park — with the pre-chorus shouts of "WORSHIP" and crushing breakdown really hammering it home.
