Despite their technological advancements over the years, handhelds remain perfect for puzzlers. Though critically acclaimed designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Lumines and its sequel follow the basic Tetris formula, his vivid revamp of the Japanese freeware classic Every Extend uses his own underrated music-based puzzle-shooter REZ as its basis. Essentially, you have to detonate your small spaceship so that it blows up near flying objects, hopefully creating a gratifying chain of explosions for combo points and much-needed extra lives. Despite its often-infuriating learning curve and tension-filled time constraints, the ever-changing electronic soundtrack, imaginatively designed levels and acid-soaked graphics combine into one extremely addictive chain reaction.
