Espanola

"Ever Kind and True" / "Everyone You Know"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Nov 9, 2017

A veteran player in the Canadian music scene, Aaron Goldstein has worked with City and Colour, Daniel Romano, Lee Harvey Osmond, Elliott Brood, Kathleen Edwards, Matt Mays, Cowboy Junkies, Bry Webb, July Talk and Weaves — you get the idea. For his latest musical offering, however, he's taking the lead.

Goldstein has unveiled two brand new tracks under the moniker of Espanola, previewing part of a record he's been slowly piecing together for almost five years. A good portion of the songs were written out east in PEI, though majority of the music was laid to tape in Delisle, SK. Former Harlan Pepper singer Dan Edmonds helped finish up with some keys recorded in Hamilton, ON.

"And since then I've pretty much hemmed and hawed over the material, the mixes, the various overdubs," Goldstein tells Exclaim! "I didn't take the advice I give to virtually everybody who comes to make a record with me — a producer will provide the perspective that you inherently cannot have on your own music. However I've been lucky to have a handful of collaborators and contributors who have told me enough that these songs should come out that, well, here they are. Two of them anyway."

Give both tunes a listen in the players at the bottom of the page.

"Ever Kind and True" and "Everyone You Know" will get a physical 7-inch release, which will be available at Espanola's upcoming shows. Goldstein's live band also features Sam Cash, Dan Edmonds, Anna Ruddick and Cam Giroux, and you can see their upcoming live dates listed below.
