American Idol's 2003 runner-up Clay Aiken is throwing his hat into the US political ring once more, announcing a new Congressional run as a Democrat in North Carolina with a new campaign video.

"These days my life looks a lot more like yours than Justin Bieber's, that I can promise you," Aiken begins the campaign video. "But one thing that has never changed for me is how much I love my home state."

In the clip, the former Idol contestant goes on to take down controversial American political figures Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Opal Boebert, alongside other "folks [who] are taking up all the oxygen in the room."

Aiken's platform issues range from "stopping climate change, systemic racism, income inequality and gun violence to securing voting rights, free health care and a woman's right to choose." Pretty progressive stuff!

This latest campaign marks Aiken's second shot at a political career, following his unsuccessful run for the US House of Representatives in 2014. Primaries for this election take place in May.
