A few years ago, Dry the River burst onto folk rock landscape rife with floorboard-stomping "hey" group shouts, and now they are pushing the envelope with Alarms in the Heart. Ahead of the album's August 25 arrival through Transgressive Records, its available to stream on Exclaim.ca.
The album was produced by Charlie Hugall (Florence and The Machine, Ed Sheeran), Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand) and Peter Miles (We Are the Ocean, Futures, the King Blues). It additionally includes string arrangements from Icelandic composer Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Sigur Rós, Tim Hecker, Damon Albarn).
The results push the boundaries of folk with distorted rock guitars, moody washes of ambience and ultra-earnest, flowery drama. There are touches of all this in the massively sprawling, 11-minute final cut, "Hope Diamond."
Hear the whole album below, where you'll also find the band's upcoming Canadian tour dates.
Tour dates:
10/26 Vancouver, BC - Media Club
11/01 Toronto, ON - The Horeshoe
11/02 Montreal, QC - La Sala Rossa
