A new documentary about founding Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett has its first official trailer.
Directed by filmmaker Roddy Bogawa and late English graphic designer and crucial Floyd collaborator Storm Thorgerson, Have You Got It Yet?: The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd is said to feature "rarely seen excerpts of Syd backstage, never-before-seen photographs and a soundtrack full of Floyd's music."
Importantly, the film features new interviews with surviving Pink Floyd members Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, along with Barrett's "friends, lovers, family."
Barrett's time with Pink Floyd saw him write the majority of the band's 1967 debut, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and portions of 1968 follow-up A Saucerful of Secrets. While at work on the latter LP, Barrett's deteriorating mental health and use of psychedelic drugs led the band to recruit his schoolfriend David Gilmour to join as a second guitarist.
Have You Got It Yet? takes its title from an unrecorded song that has been identified as Barrett's final attempt to write material for Pink Floyd. Bassist Waters has said that the song, which Barrett presented to the band at a practice session, became difficult to learn upon the band realizing that Barrett was changing the arrangement as they played.
Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968, and began a brief solo career in the years that followed, releasing The Madcap Laughs and Barrett in 1970. Both albums featured contributions from his former bandmates. He left the music industry in 1972, and was later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Pink Floyd in 1996. Barrett died of pancreatic cancer in 2006.
Ahead of a North American theatrical release later this year, Have You Got It Yet? will receive a theatrical release in the UK on May 15. Further information can be found via the film's official website.
Last month, Pink Floyd treated their classic Dark Side of the Moon to a 50th anniversary box set reissue, while Waters shared that he's re-recording the celebrated album.
