DJ Teebee

Through the Eyes of a Scorpion

BY Joshua OstroffPublished Feb 1, 2002

I've always found it curious that artists from cold climates (say, Björk or Sigur Rós) tend to produce music that is inherently chilly. Norway's DJ Teebee is no exception, rarely raising the temperature on his second full-length, Through the Eyes of a Scorpion. While not as stylistically unique as a Roni Size record, he nonetheless creates an otherworldly atmosphere using Detroit techno effects, synthetic wooshes and the occasional female vocalist to play counterpoint to his frenetic beats and undulating bass lines. It's a cold, dark world, but at least you can dance in it.
