The latest instalment of the West Coast Excursions from the heart of San Francisco’s deep house scene is mixed by the DJ MFR, co-founder of Transport Recordings, on which the series is released. Both he and his esteemed label partner Miguel Migs feature heavily all over the album with notable contributions from other soulful house labels including Om, Swank, Salted and Loveslap. The sound is exactly as the album subtitle describes — deep soulful house mixed by DJ MFR — a tight collection of smooth West coast grooves with sexualised bass lines, flowing beats and R&B stylised vocals. It captures the mood well with a couple of nice Chuck Love tracks remixed by Migs and Groove Junkies but MFR’s own tracks are the best of a good selection that is consistent but does little to go the extra mile and really impress.
