Paradise

BY Romina WendellPublished Oct 19, 2009

DJ Foundation's Paradise sets sound bytes to bass lines against the backdrop of Iraq in what he calls "a mix from Mosul." Targeting war on terror sensationalism, Foundation pounds the dance floor with machinegun rounds of late night cable clips set to Arab pop, anthemic house beats and grungy breaks. "God is Dead," "G-had" and "I Shot You Babe" loop extremists over 4/4 beats, wherein militant war calls blend with Chic's "Freak Out" and fade out into Phil Collin's "Air of The Night." The disco and stand-to-attention samples are funny bedfellows, and the fearless humour used to meld them together pushes Paradise beyond a simple dance floor mix into a shockingly smart political collage.
