DJ Cam / Various

DJ Cam has been spreading his blend of hip-hop and funk across dance floors for over 15 years. Now he has released a collection of remixes of his best tracks by an eclectic group of big names and while fans of the French down-tempo king are guaranteed to enjoy this album, others will certainly find it somewhat of a mixed bag. All three versions of "Success” are solid, but Thievery Corporation’s unmistakable outernational flavours provide the best take on the original. Extra Lucid’s "Meera,” with its thumping break and melancholy soul, is far better than Tek 9 of 4 Hero’s effort at remixing the same track with bland beats and empty electro. DJ Premier’s "Voodoo Child” is hugely disappointing as little seems to have changed since Gang Starr formed, but Guru’s lyrics work well with Bob Sinclar’s syncopated groove on "Espionage.” The album finishes off with its best track, a sensual Flytronix remix of "Innervisions.” The late J Dilla also contributes a remix of "Love Junkee.”
