Chicago's Dishes are an all-female band that plays their garage punk with a dose of spiky indie rock thrown in. If the Brood listened to more college radio, then they might sound like the Dishes. Most of the songs are fairly simple and short, with a scrappy twin guitar attack and snotty vocals defining the sound. Hot tracks on the record include "Burnin' Up," "French Kissing," "She's #1" and the catchy "I'm A Bug," with its "buzz-buzz" chorus. Not a spectacular release, but a well-recorded disc from a fun band that is making some cool punk-style songs. Extra points must be awarded for having comic book artist Jessica Abel of Artbabe fame do the cover design.
