Diplo has flipped the feel of rapper Ty Dolla $ign's swerving "Stand For" single, presenting the beat to Grizzly Bear's Edward Droste and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij to turn it into a new pop tune called "Long Way Home."
Having produced the original track with DJ Dahi, Diplo's remix pretty well uses the familiar shimmering synths and molasses snare cracks of Dolla $ign's ditty. Hip-hop verses are scrubbed out, though, with ursine indie singer Droste's cloudy coo presenting a narrative about being honest with one another, no matter the hurt that could cause.
A since-removed note on Diplo's SoundCloud had explained: "its about time that indie rock acts started to co-opt rap beats!"
