After Exclaim! published a Die Antwoord news story on September 9 reporting that the rave rappers would be calling it quits one year from now, in September 2017, founding member Yolandi Visser took to Instagram to deny that report.
"The journalist 'Daryl Keating' who wrote an article stating that we are breaking up totally twisted our words an [sic] took what we said completely out of context with his latest article. This is a lie," the post reads in part.
Exclaim! spoke only with Die Antwoord's Ninja, who told Keating, of the breakup: "Die Antwoord dies on that day. It's all over. I feel beautiful about it. I'm not scared of the end." Exclaim! stands by its original reporting and accurate quoting of Ninja's words in our interview.
"All we said was next year we will be working on our 5th final DA album & then continue to shoot a DA feature film," Visser's post continues, concluding "DIE ANTWOORD FOR EVA." Both facts were reported in Keating's original story, and Visser herself seems to be confirming the end of Die Antwoord's musical journey, at least, by referring to their forthcoming album as "our 5th final DA album." Implied in both Visser's Instagram and a further post from co-founder Ninja (below), they intend to continue to make art and music, but not as Die Antwoord.
As Exclaim! reported in 2010, Die Antwoord's career plan at the time was to release five albums and five feature films. The forthcoming feature South African Ninja would be their first feature, although Ninja was reportedly considered by South African-Canadian director Neill Blomkamp to star in his dystopian sci-fi movie Elysium, and both Die Antwoord members appeared in Blomkamp's robot cop film Chappie.
