Dickies

Still Got Live, Even if You Don’t Want it

It appears that ROIR, the once notable cassette-only label, has finally decided to catch up with the times, re-mastering and re-releasing their catalogue on CD. With that in mind, it’s with great pleasure and much anticipation that the infamous 1986 release of the Dickies We Aren’t the World, is being regurgitated upon the masses once more. Although the CD has been aptly re-titled Still Got Live, Even if You Don’t Want it, it remains the same stupendous release, containing all 25 Dickies classics. Everything from the 1977 four-track demos that got the band signed to A&M, to live material recorded in the UK and the USA between 1978-1985 inhabits this CD. The CD is an excellent retrospective look at the insanity and sounds of the pubescent Dickies; however, the sound quality doesn’t stand up to their greatest hits package Locked and Loaded. Nonetheless, if you absolutely need to hear raw and early versions of “Hideous,” “You Drive Me Ape,” “Give it Back,” “Gigantor” and “Manny, Moe and Jack,” then this is the place to look. The Dickies have always and will always possess ludicrous B-movie brains, and with their music set on warp speed, it’s no wonder why they hold the title as the West Coast Ramones.
