DIANA Sign with Paper Bag/Jagjaguwar for Debut Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 8, 2013

Joseph Shabason previously played smooth sax on Destroyer's outstanding album Kaputt, and now he makes up one quarter of the fast-rising Toronto electronic pop outfit DIANA. Today is a big one for the band, as they have inked a deal with with Paper Bag Records in Canada, announcing they will release their self-titled debut LP on August 20. In the U.S., however, it will arrive via Jagjaguwar.

The songs were written and demoed by Shabason and Kieran Adams, who then recruited vocalist Carmen Elle. The lineup is rounded out by Paul Mathew. DIANA was co-produced by Roger Leavens (Woodhands, the Rural Alberta Advantage).

According to a press release, "a pop sensibility is undeniably present" in these eight songs. For a taste of the band's atmospheric sound, watch a psychedelic video for the smoothly atmospheric "Born Again" at the bottom of this page.
