Desolation Wilderness

White Light Strobing

BY Pras RajagopalanPublished Nov 4, 2008

Congrats are due to Desolation Wilderness for choosing a band name that describes their music remarkably well. White Light Strobing’s incandescent brand of ambient shoegaze has an unmistakably airy, wide-open feel to it. Reverb is at the core of all this, stretching their dreamy, trebly compositions gossamer thin. But underneath all these textures lays a beating melodic heart, one that those with a soft spot for Galaxie 500 would find most endearing. Songs like "Come Over In Your Silver Car” and "Paris To New York” are particularly striking for their windswept forlornness. Despite running a risk of treble overload, White Light Strobing will find a nice home on many a shoegazer listener’s shelf.
