In the wake of keyboardist Andy "Fletch" Fletcher's death earlier this year, Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have announced a new album and a 2023 world tour, including a few stops in Canada.

Produced by James Ford, Memento Mori is due to arrive sometime next spring via Columbia. It follows 2017's Spirit. Gahan and Gore previewed a piece from the forthcoming record at a press conference in Berlin today.

"We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time," Gore said. "After Fletch's passing, we decided to continue as we're sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning."

Gahan added: "Fletch would have loved this album. We're really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can't wait to present it to you live at the shows next year."

The duo kick off their massive world tour — their first in five years — on March 23 in Sacramento, CA, ahead of making their way to Toronto's Scotiabank Arena on April 7, Quebec City's Videotron Centre on April 9 and Montreal's Centre Bell on April 12. From there, they'll go on to play Madison Square Garden and a whole slew of dates overseas, wrapping things up in Oslo on August 11.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday (October 7) via Ticketmaster.
