Şiş Sürpriz

Şiş Sürpriz is the third EP from French producer dÉbruit, following Let's Post Funk and Spatio Temporel. dÉbruit's previous efforts have seen him experimenting with regional sounds and influences, like the recent Heart Beats 4 Haiti EP, which is rife with beats full of Haitian samples. Following in the same vein, Şiş Sürpriz is a four-track EP of Middle Eastern influences, thanks to dÉbruit's move to a Turkish neighbourhood in London that subsequently led to a trip to Turkey. It's easy to get lost in the tracks' worldly vibes, even if dÉbruit does make use of modern beat patterns. Opening track "Accordé Don" starts with a fluttering accordion that solidifies into a backbeat and eventually breaks down for a synth overhaul. Standout track "Mezdé" moves with waves of strings, the fractured breaks giving off a dark air while being eerily reminiscent of FlyLo's "Camel." Rolling darbuka and davul drums, interspersed with claps, lead up to a gritty bass drop before the haunting string sounds of the kabak kemane are worked back in. dÉbruit's style of incorporating flighty synths, bass-heavy interludes and warped and wobbled vocals is definitely at work on Şiş Sürpriz.
