David Lynch and Interpol have teamed up for an NFT, because nothing is cool anymore and everything hurts.
The NFT in question is pulled from Interpol's 2011 Coachella performance, where they debuted a piece that overlaid Lynch's I Touch a Red Button Man with the band's 2010 single "Lights."
In a statement about the project, Interpol frontman Paul Banks said, "the new performances are stripped-down renditions featuring [Interpol lead guitarist] Daniel Kessler on piano."
"In the spirit of fandom," Banks continued, "we are glad to reveal that one of the eight NFTs will go to fans — for free."
"What makes us so excited about this release is it memorializes the collaboration between David Lynch and Interpol," added Jack Spallone, head of crypto product at HIFI Labs. "Using Ethereum, these NFTs can live in eternity as artefacts of cinematic and musical history. Just as David Lynch's career helped push the boundaries of film and even fiction, it is now extending into the permanent universe of blockchain." Alright!
The NFT is available here, and auctions for 'Lynch X Interpol' start today (October 26) and end November 9.
Interpol recently started working on their 7th studio album in London, teaming up with producers Flood & Moulder. It's expected to arrive sometime next year on Matador. Their last full-length record was 2018's Marauder.
