For the second volume in the Blow Your Head series, DJ Dave Nada offers up a 15-track compilation, Moombahton, featuring a relatively new genre that's a mix of Dutch house and reggaeton. The slowed down tempo of reggaeton is coupled with the sped-up grit and grime of Dutch house, and the new sound has been supported by the likes of Diplo, M.I.A. and Major Lazer. Though it may sound a bit slow going, Moombahton is rife with bangers that make a big impact despite their reduced tempos. Sandro Silva's throbbing electro-smash, "Told Ya," is pared back with the DJ Melo edit, but its big bass sound falls perfectly in line with the hard-hitting reggaeton vibe on the album. Tracks by Datsik (Munchi's remix of "Firepower"), Nadastrom ("Gal Where Yuh Come From") and Tittsworth & Alvin Risk ("Pendejas") all build upon waves of electro-house, charged drops and chopped vocals, but circulate around toned down tempos, lush bass and Caribbean backbones. Moombahton is a great trip through old and new, the gritty crux of two genres colliding.
