Dave Grohl Says It's His Daughter's Job to Start the Next Revolution, Not His: "I Think She Will"

That's a lot of pressure

Dave Grohl is no stranger to culturally revolutionary music (there was once a time when he helped make some), but in a new interview, the former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman said that he's passing the revolutionary buck to his daughter.

Speaking with MSNBC's Ari Melber, Grohl said his daughter Violet — who's joined the Foo Fighters on tour — "is the most talented musician this family has ever known" and describes her as an omnivorous and open-minded music lover.

"She looks like a punk rock kid who listens to Joni Mitchell. So it's kind of like a punk rock Joni Mitchell. And when I see that, what I see is this mutation, this change, this growth and progression that her generation, they're the rock stars now," Grohl said, more or less explaining the breakdown of distinct and independent scenes that's happened over the last two decades.

"It's not old guys like me. It's not people like Kanye [West]. It's that generation," he continued. "Give it five or 10 years, give it three or four years and you'll see how this mutation is happening."

Grohl went on to describe how playing his hits has the power to bring people from across the cultural spectrum together, though he "[doesn't] feel like it's our job as a band to create any sort of revolution. It's to bring everyone together in those moments. It's my daughter's job to create that next revolution and I think she will."

While that's a lot of pressure to put on a 16-year-old, it's kinda refreshing to know that Grohl isn't deluding himself into thinking the Foo Fighters currently have the power to change the world.
