Having put Dashboard Confessional on hiatus, Chris Carrabba is now ready to deliver the first official EP from his folk-tinged Twin Forks project. A self-titled effort arrives September 17 via Dine Alone.
Like their four-song digital freelease Tour EP Vol. 1 from earlier this year, a press release notes that this upcoming offering "harnesses the acoustic spirit of [Carrabba's] work with Dashboard Confessional and channels it through the rootsy classic folk of his childhood."
The singalong-styled EP starts off with previously released, hootin'-and-a-hollerin' "Back to You," but introduces newer songs like the whistle-driven "Cross My Mind" and the Celtic-flavoured closer "Scraping Up the Pieces," among others. According to Carrabba, despite Dashboard Confessional's early acoustic emo approach, he maintains he's always had an interested in rootsier riffs.
"When I started playing acoustic-based music, I wasn't trying to avoid traditional folk because I didn't love it — I just loved it so much and didn't wanna do an injustice to it," Carrabba explains. "And I had other influences and I thought, why can't I combine this punk and hardcore feeling with this classic folk feeling — because they were both such massive loves of mine. But right now I'm more excited about utilizing the age-old, time-tested thing and trying to excel within the parameters of a traditional template."
Twin Forks recently performed at Montreal's Osheaga festival and have a set lined up this Saturday (August 10) at the Squamish Valley Music Festival. They also have a U.S. tour this fall, and you can see all the dates down below.
