As they say, all good things come to an end, and so will be the case for Daniel Johnston's life onstage. The celebrated songwriter has announced that he will be embarking on his final tour this fall.
The tour is frustratingly short, including just five dates so far. But he will make his way to Canada to play in Vancouver on November 10.
For the tour, Johnston will be playing shows backed by his own band, as well as the musicians "he has influenced." These special guest artists include Jeff Tweedy & Friends in Chicago, the Preservation All-Stars in New Orleans, and the Districts and Modern Baseball in Philadelphia. For Portland and Vancouver, Johnston will be joined by Built to Spill.
The setlist will be ever-evolving, with Johnston allowing the special-guest backing musicians to choose the songs for each night. During the course of his career, Johnston has released well over a hundred songs.
You can see the list of dates below. It is unclear if more dates will be added to the tour in the future.
UPDATE (8/16, 1:45 p.m. EDT): Johnston has now added dates to his final tour. They include a show in New York on October 7, when he'll be backed by members of Beirut, Gang Gang Dance, Cibo Matto and more, as well as a November 2 show in L.A. that will feature Mike Watt, Ben Lee, Maria Taylor and members of Silversun Pickups.
